The Forge version works with OptiFine and FastCraft as mods.
And how is your version different that you can't install OptiFine?
-Install the latest hardware drivers
-PC specs pls
-Lower the settings
-set javaw.exe to the high priority
-Turn off the music
-Give Minecraft more memory with the command -Xmx[value][G/m] you gotta type that in the JVM arguments in the "Edit Profile" window. For example: -Xmx512m (512 MBs) -Xmx1G (1 gig) (depends on your RAM, allow only about half of your RAM. DO NOT allow more memory than you actually have)
Also why can't you install Optifine? It's a really good way to improve performance in MC since it gives you a lot more options. You can change your fullscreen resolution, dunno why that's not a thing in the game itself.

Inflexion: I think you need to have at least 2GB of RAM for decent FPS on lowest settings- View Distance to Low
- Disable MipMapping
- Enable VBO
- FPS: Unlimited
- Particles Minimal
- View bobbing off

Depending on your FPS, you must set the FPS setting into how much you reach.. if you didn't put it on how much you reach, it can lead to a critical FPS drop

Elfing: Well thanks a little bit because the -Xmx512m thingy helped a little bit.. still I get critical frames per second drop, I think I also explained now why not I dont use optifine.. 
BTW, isn't the game playable at 30FPS ?
Yank, 11 FPS is playable for you I think maybe?
Inflexion: When did I say that ? On the thread you say that it goes down to 30. But, if it only drops on the lobby, whats the problem ? 1GB what ? RAM ? If yes , just uninstall mc .
