Hi,

I think a lot of people in the CS2D community feel the same way, the game is basically abandoned. No real updates, no communication, nothing new for a long time. It's sad to see, because many of us grew up playing this game and still care about it a lot.
There’s still a small but loyal community here. People are hosting servers, creating maps, and trying to keep it alive, but it’s hard to do that when the game feels completely abandoned. It really seems like the current owner/devs have moved on, and that’s totally understandable, life happens. If there’s no interest in continuing development or managing the game, then maybe it’s time to let someone else take over. Someone from the community who actually wants to put time and effort into making CS2D active again, adding new updates and making the game more interesting, not letting it die.
I know you worked hard over the years, you made this game great and probally feel like we are trying to steal it from you, but in reality, we just want to play an active game, filled with players, not an empty map filled with bots.

Thank you.
Iulian

That's a complicated topic and it has been discussed several times already. One key problem here is that CS2D is built on outdated tech (BlitzMax), which isn't popular, limiting the amount of people who want to work with it. It doesn't make much sense to keep working on a house which is built on a rotten foundation which is about to collapse.

In my opinion the only right way to proceed with the project would be to re-write CS2D with modern tech. Nobody really wants to do that. And IF anyone would want to do that, that/these person(s) could write their own CS2D without my support. Some tried, nobody finished.

Also the game works fine in its current state. Sure there are bugs and things which could be improved but I doubt that updates would massively increase the amount of people who play it. I do my best to keep the game running in it's current state with a working server list etc.

But I'm currently not putting a lot of time into development CS2D for above reasons and also because I already need all my free time and motivation to work on Stranded 3.

If someone would take over, what would you expect to happen? Which features would you want to see? Do you really think it would change a lot?

I still kinda care about the game, I make a few maps... maybe DC might add them in the future :d
The game could be brought back to life, but the first step is fixing all the bugs that filled the game, then we can start thinking about adding new stuff, I’ve got a lot of ideas in mind, but the game won’t really get new content since it’s in alpha.

Another reasons that killed the game and I gotta be honest here:

On Unrealsoftware:

The rules are just super annoying if you really think about it, alot of rules must be removed.

Moderators kept handing out warnings to members for the smallest things, which gave people headaches and pushed them to insult mods, and then they’d get banned, Honestly I can’t even blame the members, If you keep warning me for dumb stuff, like replying to someone’s file while using caps (example: “NICE JOB MAN!”) or telling me my map looks like it was made in 5 minutes when I spent a week on it, I’d be upset too, that never happened to me tho, I also saw some really detailed maps get slapped with that “5 minutes” comment, which was just unfair.

There were some members like Yates that bullied new people who uploaded their files instead of helping or motivating them, And there are others I won’t mention their name because they’re still active today and I don’t want to cause drama, I think they’re obvious, check their profiles and enjoy reading through their toxic comments, I don't even know how they got out of all of that without getting banned or warned at least.

On CS2D:

There were good servers, but the server owner was toxic, and yeah if the owner is toxic expect chaos, The owner’s friends would join in, make fun of you all day, and if you tried to fight back boom, banned.

Old servers also banned people for the dumbest reasons, and honestly, that was one of the biggest reasons CS2D ended up dying.

The game had some really annoying bugs, for some reason no one reported them all those years.

Anyways, the game could be brought back to life it’s not impossible, But players would want to experience it in the best way possible. I’ve actually been thinking about posting about CS2D again on YouTube, My old videos were kinda cringe, but this time I would be more serious, The only problem is I don’t have enough time, and the game really needs good servers with good owners, I still can’t believe there are toxic owners running servers it’s just ridiculous.

And after we get new players, we need to ban the toxic ones, they’re spreading their toxicity and it’s literally killing the game, I know banning people for that might seem “unfair,” and they’ll be like : “I didn’t do anything!” no, your toxicity killed the game, Your stupid behavior both in game and on Unrealsoftware, constantly annoying people about their files, they're spreading their toxicity and they're getting away with it, I believe those players put more effort in killing the game than improving it.

And actually moderators back then were really nice, I don’t know what happened later… they just started giving people warnings and declining files, and even their whole behavior changed, I’m usually on Unrealsoftware just to check out old files and old drama, but yeah the mods started off nice and ended up pretty bad.

One of the main problems CS2D has faced over the years is that its already small player base is split into multiple regional communities. This fragmentation makes it even harder to find active servers and keep players engaged.

A possible solution would be to create one single official community hub, while still keeping servers in different regions to account for latency. In practice, this would mean:

Centralized community – One official Discord/forum/website where all players gather, share updates, organize events, and find servers.

Regional servers under one umbrella – Servers could still exist in different regions (EU, NA, SA, Asia, etc.), but they would all be connected to the same community, following the same standards and being promoted together.

Easier access for new players – Instead of being confused about which community is “the right one,” new players would have a single entry point, making the game feel more alive.

Global events and coordination – By uniting players socially, we could organize global events, tournaments, or “community play days” to boost activity and ensure servers are populated at specific times.

This way, CS2D would no longer feel like several isolated islands, but rather a single global community with regional access points. It would make the game more welcoming, concentrated, and active despite the low overall player numbers.

The game stayed the same for over a decade and the main reason why people left it and cs 1.6 still has a ton of players till this day is cause this is a 2D game with simple mechanics and cs 1.6 is a 3D game with more unique game mechanics where you can actually climb onto ppl get boosted on certain positions , wallbang throw perfect nades etc so in short its not a regional problem ofc now that the game died out and it has 10players yes if they get split into diff regions its gonna be even more dead but yep maybe if you had 1idea for the past 15years not everyone would leave the game but i guess enjoy making stranded 3 until u die probably im gonna uninstall the game after playing it for 10minutes but nvm instead of saying " nobody would want to work on the game cause its a old engine you could just release it and see what happens

you people have to realise that times change and everything has to end at some point. this means that cs2d, being about two decades old, was very much a product of its time, when decentralised 2d games were still widely played and enjoyed, and hardware was not that great. nowadays, people simply won't find a straightforward 2d game built on an archaic engine fun to play. were it up to me, i would've shut the master server down years ago and effectively ended the game while it was still somewhat chugging along, instead of having it slowly be forgotten. breaks my heart to see it like this. sometimes you have to simply euthanise that which is suffering. still, @user DC chooses not to, and pays for the master server each month for the dozen or so players still playing. and i respect that.

establishing a monopoly over a small community is precisely what kills it. also, you seem to have a utopian idea that mixing various people who resent each other over petty things is beneficial. it's not. whole countries have fallen apart over things like that, let alone a video game with less than twenty players.

bold of you to talk about banning other people. most of your recent posts on unreal software are you acting as an sjw, and accusing others of bad behaviour, not taking your own into account. and as i recall, you were a rather prolific cheater in cs2d back in the day, with an affinity for awp one shot servers. video evidence exists, but i won't post it unless provoked, as i feel like it's pointless to seek petty justice when the game is pretty much gone. still, i feel like you in particular shouldn't be talking about toxicity, complaining about moderators and acting like a saint, and the saviour of cs2d, when you most certainly are not.

Wait, so you’re trying to tell me this game doesn’t have a toxic community? Put me aside if you believe I’m the toxicest player ever that existed in the game, let’s look at the other members... Have you ever bothered checking the old files to see how some mods, members, and reviewers were treating other people? They mocked their files, saying stuff like “made in 5 minutes.” I saw some really good maps get hit with that same “5 minutes” decline. Same with Lua scripts, But the thing is that those declined files seem to have been removed, so I can’t really prove it now.

Who were these members? Good question. Most of them were I assume friends with certain mods and reviewers, so they basically can do whatever they want freely, They can mock you and you can't do anything about it, They can insult you and you can't do anything, Their behavior was shit, as simple as that.

And honestly, I think these people are acting that way for 2 reasons : they're either living miserable lives and don’t know what to do, so they end up cyberbullying and probably messing with people’s real lives… or they’re just evil.

Have you ever seen me mocking new members files? ever saw me tell someone their file is trash and that they should put more effort in? Dude, new members are the future of this game never tell them their files are bad, Motivate them instead.
Honestly, I did mock three members, but I wanted to give them a taste of their own medicine, They weren’t new, they were old members, and even then my mocks were respectful.

About hacking...
First off, I stopped hacking like 2 or 3 years ago, and when was that video from? 2021? 2022?

Secondly, I already apologized to everyone I annoyed with hacking, even on FWS website I told them I apologize for my behavior back then, they still refused, What else am I supposed to do? Make a thread on Unrealsoftware and say things like, “Hey everyone, please accept my apology!!!”

And lastly, I used to invite a lot of people to the game, and I was also making videos to try and keep it alive, I only stopped because of school, otherwise I would’ve kept inviting more people, Those videos had a lot of views too anywhere from around 500 up to 3k, if I remember right.

Now what did you actually do? Did you invite anyone to the game? Did you bother reporting any bugs? Did you do anything useful for the game at all? no, Then why are you talking? Share that video and let’s see if anyone even cares anymore because it’s already over for this game.

Instead of calling me toxic or stupid or whatever nonsense you want to say about me, how about looking at this guy Cannonballs who keep multi-accounting? Report him instead of dragging up something I did years ago, He’s literally an alt of @user ocliman715, He is @user theskyhadoncebeenblue: too.

I’m still planning to help bring the game back to life, I’ve got a lot of stuff I’ll be publishing soon IF I ever finished, [Half-Life mod with expanded 2gen NPCs, missing maps, jail maps pack, remaster of old maps like csde_airport and cs_druglab], I might be posting about CS2D again, but this time not just on YouTube, But I don't have free time.

It doesn’t matter if the game is old it can still be played, and it’s better than a lot of new games out there nowadays, So how about we focus on building a new community and a new plan instead of attacking each other? Otherwise this will just end in chaos, There’s a second chance for the game but a lot of things need to change, we need new mods, and the game itself needs some a few changes too.

And honestly I'm not in the mood to start arguing about something and giving myself headache because of you or any other members, good luck, I'm out of this topic.
